The study of Pia Capdevila signing the comprehensive refurbishment of a duplex of 150 square meters located in Alella, Barcelona, spain, with the intention of win natural light, visually expand the space and add functionality to housing.

So, the keys of this reform to meet the demands of the owners, who sought to expand the natural light throughout the main floor, open spaces to turn them into open space extending visually all the space of the home, designing a floor comfortable and functional, and increase storage, placing it on many corners. All this to achieve a warm from the finest materials as the wood.

To resolve the first need and equip the entire main floor of increased natural light joined the rear light housing, which is entered through a kitchen window, with the front of the room. To do so, it opened up all the spaces of this plant, pulling the walls and removing the doors. “When you delete the partitions are made of this plant and get a rectangle open, we saw the option of linking the kitchen to the living room and thus be able to create a general space to expand visually the whole area of day,” explains the interior designer.

Multifunctional furniture pieces

Also to gain space and practicality in this plant, the interior designer chose to take advantage of all the corners of the home, designing custom furniture that enjoy storage: “we design a piece of furniture to measure from tip to tip of the rectangle that generates the three areas that we were looking for: the same piece of furniture starts in the classroom to be a library, passes through the dining room to mode buffet and just become a kitchen furniture”.

The wood is the thread to give warmth to all spaces of the house, from the living room up to the kitchen

Following this premise, we took advantage of some of the materials of the original structure of the housing as the pillars, which were used to create various columns and divide this piece of furniture multifunctional. As well, some of the columns are real, while others are false, designed by Pia Capdevila and converted into furniture storage.

For safety, we added a glass divider in the part of the ladder, and just below the hollow of this we designed a cabinet with bar extensible to save os coats.

The entire floor of this plant is made with oak wood, natural, creating a sense of the whole. The parts in clean lines and sober along with the warm touch from the woods to create a feeling of home and warmth perfect for a dedicated area to relax.

For the main bedroom, on the private floor of the house, Capdevila designed a furniture in the form of T, painted in the same color as the wall, and that has three different functions: it acts as headboard, furniture separator and bedroom dressing room and storage, both to the dressing room as to the headboard.

“The new distribution did grow the space without actually having expanded physically nothing,” explains the interior designer.
